Richard M. Murdock, Sr., 82, of Worcester died Monday, March 27th in St. Vincent Hospital surrounded by his family. He leaves his wife of 58 years, Ann E. (Fitzgerald) Murdock; his son, Richard M. Murdock, Jr. of Worcester; a daughter, Lisa A. Dziemian and her husband, Frank of Auburn; a brother, William Murdock of Worcester; a sister in law, Kathryn R. Murdock of Marlboro; three grandchildren, Kara M. Fox and her husband, Jeffrey, Meaghan E. Hammond and her husband, Chadd and David J. Pierce; a great granddaughter, Ava Fox and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Thomas J. Murdock who died March 9, 2017 and his siblings, John Murdock, Robert Murdock, Shirley LeBlond and Lorraine St. George.
He was born in Worcester, the son of John and Hannah (Hassett) Murdock. Richard was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a claim supervisor for Merchant Mutual Insurance Company for 15 years and the American Hardware Insurance Company, retiring in 1999. He sang professionally throughout the Worcester and Boston area winning several awards. He was recognized in a newspaper review as “one of the country’s greatest Irish Tenors. He was a New England sports enthusiast and a fan of all teams. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren especially summers at the beach, attending dance recitals and all their sports events.
Funeral services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s name to Our Lady of the Angels Church Building Fund, 1222 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01603. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue is directing arrangements.
