Subscription Update Obituary

    Richard D. Girard, 75, South Yarmouth, formerly of Worcester, died peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, August 25, 2010. His wife, Patricia E. (Zollo) Girard died in 2002.

    Richard is survived by three sons, Richard “Dave” Girard, Jr. of Charlton, Daniel B. Girard of Weston Florida, Paul G. Girard of Auburn, and two daughters, Kathleen W. Pignatiello of Palm Coast Florida and Janice E. Davoren of Needham; one brother, Charles L. Girard of Vero Beach FL; twelve grandchildren, five great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

    Richard was born in Detroit Michigan son of the late Charles L. Girard and Viola R. (Daniels) Girard and lived in Worcester many years before moving to South Yarmouth in 1997. He was a graduate of South High School, and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at Quinsigamond Community College. Richard was a Worcester Police Officer for many years before he retired. Richard was a member of St. Pius X Church in South Yarmouth, a member of the Massachusetts Police Association, the International Brotherhood of Police Officers, the Retired State and County Municipal Employee’s Association, and the Yarmouth Senior Citizen’s. Richard served as a Sgt. in the Air Force during the Korean War. Richard enjoyed living at the Cape.

    Richard’s funeral will be held Saturday from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in Our Lady Of The Angels Church, 1222 Main St. Calling hours in the funeral home will be from 4-7PM on Friday, (tonight). Interment will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.
