Philip E. Kennen, 81, passed away at the Lutheran Home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 after a brief illness. He was the son of Clayton Winthrop and Florence(Partridge) Kennen.
He was born on March 4th, 1940 in Worcester, MA. and was raised in Leicester. Philip was a graduate of Leicester High School and attended Leicester Jr. College before he enlisted in the Air Force. After his service in the Air Force he began working at David Clark Company on the Apollo project where he was involved in the testing and constructing of the spacesuits. After a brief stint at O.S. Walker in Worcester, he began working at Berlin Corp. in Shrewsbury for the remainder of his career where he had the pleasure of traveling around the world. After his retirement, he enjoyed working at Klems in Spencer for many years.
Phil met the love of his life Barbara in seventh grade in Latin class. They were married in 1963. In 1965, they bought their forever home on beautiful Thompson Pond in Spencer, where they raised their family. Phil enjoyed every minute of the lake life with his family!
He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Barbara (Stearns) Kennen. He leaves behind 4 children Thomas Kennen and his wife Margaret of Spencer, daughter Samantha Kennen of Provincetown, daughter Michelle E. Kennen of Spencer, son Michael Kennen “Uncle Boo” and his wife Michelle A. of Spencer; 3 grandchildren Matthew Kennen, Travis and Julieianna Tong all of Spencer, a great grandson Chace Kennen of Spencer; his siblings Marilyn “Sis” (Kennen) Flavin, Bruce Kennen of Spencer and many nieces and nephews as well as his beloved dog Shadow.
The family would like to extend their thanks to all of the staff at the VA in Boston, Harrington Cancer Center, and the Lutheran Home.
Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, May 11,2021 from 5-7PM in Pillsbury Funeral Home 163 Main St Spencer. The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11:00AM in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be held in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
