Paul M. O’Leary, 79, of Worcester died peacefully Wednesday, May 10th at home. He leaves his wife of 57 years, Joyce J. (Carey) O’Leary; four sons, James P. O’Leary and his wife, Catherine of Uxbridge, Dennis M. O’Leary and his wife, Wendy of Spencer, Thomas P. O’Leary and his wife, Rose of Oxford and Steven J. O’Leary and his wife, Kimberly of Worcester; four daughters, Sharon M. Charbonneau and her husband, Roy of Worcester, Donna A. O’Leary of Worcester; Patricia J. O’Leary of Oxford and Colleen A. O’Leary and her husband, Mark Ireland of Worcester; a sister, Mary Erickson of Shrewsbury; two brothers-in-law, William Carey and his wife, Phyllis of Shrewsbury and Richard Carey of Worcester; and two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Charbonneau of Worcester and Ann Daley and her husband, Paul of Arizona. He also leaves 9 grandchildren, Daniel O’Leary, Sara Masiello, Mark Charbonneau, Megan Ferland, Lauren O’Leary, Evan Charbonneau, Kathleen O’Leary, Sean O’Leary and Ryan O’Leary; a great grandson, Raymond Ferland; and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Michael O’Leary.
He was born in Worcester the son of Michael and Angela (Power) O’Leary and graduated from St. John’s High School. Paul was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. O’Leary worked as a technician for 34 years with the telephone company, retiring in 1997. Paul was a member of St. John’s Church, the Greendale Men’s Club, and the Greendale YMCA for 20 years. He enjoyed spending his time golfing, traveling and spending time at the beach especially family vacations at Cape Cod. After retiring, Paul enjoyed his yearly trip to Aruba with his wife, Joyce it was their favorite vacation spot.
His funeral is Monday, May 15th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. John’s Church, 40 Temple Street. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Sunday, May 14th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Food for the Poor Program, 40 Temple Street, Worcester, MA 01604.
