Paul M. Hagberg, 89, of Paxton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. Born and raised in Worcester, Paul was the son of Martin R. and Lillian (Toivonen) Hagberg and lived over 50 years in Paxton.
Paul was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade High School where he studied to be an electrician. After enlisting and serving in the U.S. Naval Reserves, Paul began his career as an electrician and was introduced to his future wife, Martha M. Sroka, while working in Springfield. They married on February 15, 1958 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Worcester and shortly moved to their new home in Paxton. He worked the last 28 years of his trade with Ostrow Electric in Worcester before retiring in 1986.
He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Worcester, Greendale Retired Men’s Club and The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers – Local 96. Paul’s passion was buying and restoring antique cars. He shared his enthusiasm for antique cars with the many friends he made as a member of the Worcester Old Car Club and the Wachusett Old Car Club. Paul and Martha enjoyed travelling together which included trips to Hawaii, Alaska and several cruises.
He will be affectionately remembered and missed by his wife of 57 years, Martha M. (Sroka) Hagberg; a sister, Carolyn D. Setterlund of South Dennis; a sister-in-law, Anna J. Hagberg of Princeton; several nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his brother, Kenneth N. Hagberg.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Paul’s family from 10 to 11 am on Monday, July 10, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 73 Lancaster St., Worcester, followed by a funeral service honoring his life at 11 am. Internment will take place at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Paul’s name to Trinity Lutheran Church, 73 Lancaster St., Worcester, MA 01609. Funeral arrangements are under the direction and care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
