He graduated from North High School in 1960, Worcester Junior College in 1962, and also attended Central New England College.

A Korean War veteran, he joined the US Army in 1963, attending Army Air Defense School. He proudly served his country as a Specialist 5th class until his honorable discharge in 1966.
