It is with deep sadness and love that we announce the passing of Nicholas J. Ritacco, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, friend, and mentor to many. Nicholas was born on August 20, 1931, in Worcester, MA, as the sixth of seven children to Angelo and Mary Ritacco (siblings Albert, Evelyn Wickson, William, Arthur, Angelo Jr., and Marie Gengarelli). He is survived by his youngest sister, Marie Gengarelli. He was a man of integrity, strength, and dedication, who inspired everyone who knew him with his work ethic, kindness, and steadfast commitment to family. He was a member of St. Christopher’s parish, Worcester, and was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade.

Nicholas was married to the love of his life, Nancy Ritacco (Erickson), for over 68 amazing years. Together, they built a family legacy based on love, resilience, and unwavering support. Their journey began after they met on a blind date, set up by friends, following Nicholas’s service in the US Army during the Korean War. Nicholas served his country proudly, serving as MP elite forces, and demonstrating the mental discipline and loyalty that defined his life.

Nicholas’s pride and joy were his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; his six sons, Michael and Lynne Ritacco of Worcester, Steven (predeceased) and Maureen Ritacco of TX, Kevin and Judith Ritacco of Boylston, Nicholas Jr. and Lisa Ritacco of Worcester, David and Alison Ritacco of Norwood, and Dr. Alan and Wendy Ritacco of West Boylston. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Dr. Christopher (Sylvia, Oliver), Jessica (newborn Henry), Timothy (Alessandra, Adrianna), Erin (Sophia, Cameron), Danielle (Penelope, Emmelia ilia), Pamela (Stasia, Sebastian, Savannah, Sawyer), Michael (Joseph), Brieanna, Elizabeth, Nicholas III, Anthony, Dylan, Steven, and Domenic.

A skilled craftsman, Nicholas began his career as a mason and became known as a Master Mason to all. He was a Master Mason, construction supervisor, leader, and friend, embodying the values of brotherhood, honesty, and compassion that guided his life and work. Nicholas quickly rose to manage significant building projects across New England. Working at FW Madigan for over 30 years, he left an indelible mark on the industry, especially within Worcester County. His expertise, dedication, and humility in his work earned him the respect of colleagues and the admiration of his family, who learned valuable lessons about hard work, precision, and care from his example.

Beyond his remarkable career and dedication to family, Nicholas was known for his mental discipline and quiet strength. He was a role model for hundreds within the extended Ritacco family, including nephews, nieces, and beyond. He taught his family to be compassionate, generous, and honorable, living by example and guiding with a gentle hand. Nicholas truly was the best husband, father, son, and friend anyone could ask for, and he will be profoundly missed.

His life was a testament to love, loyalty, and resilience. As we mourn his loss, we remember the joy he brought to each of us and the legacy of integrity, hard work, and kindness he leaves behind.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Belinda Osei-Opoku and her exceptional team of caregivers who provided Nicholas, and our family, with compassionate care and comfort over the past two years.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
