Nancy E. Weissinger, aged 90 years, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 25, 2022. She was one of three children to the late Andrew and Ellen (Lantinen) Peterson. She was a Belmont Hill resident and a graduate of North High in Worcester. Nancy graduated from Worcester State Teachers College and began teaching second grade in Northborough. She knew early on that she wanted to teach and she loved working with young students. While raising her three children, Curtis S. Weissinger, Sally W. Morris, and Thomas R. Weissinger, she completed a Master’s degree from Framingham State College and an Associate’s Degree in Business from Quinsigamond Community College. She taught full-time for many years, substitute teaching only while her children were young, in Northborough, Worcester, and Millbury.

In addition to teaching school, Nancy enjoyed sewing and gardening. She and her former husband Curtis R Weissinger square danced, and Nancy sewed matching outfits for them, and she was a seamstress at home for over a decade. First she grew vegetables, and then in retirement she began to grow flowers and tend her garden with passion. An avocation she studied and thoroughly enjoyed was graphoanalysis, and she amused her friends and family and the staff at Beaumont by analyzing their handwriting.

Travel, friends old and new, family, and the Garden Club of Northborough, the Historical Society, and the St. Rose of Lima Woman’s Club occupied her retirement years most fully. Always interested in art, especially the Worcester Art Museum, Nancy was thrilled to travel extensively in Europe and North America. Her home was full of books, music, magazines, National Geographic and artwork, as well as toys and books she saved for her grandchildren. A natural teacher, Nancy shared her curiosity and sense of humor with all the people in her life. Her students often reached out to tell her what a difference she made in their life through her warm and welcoming style.

Nancy is survived by her son Thomas R. Weissinger and his wife Kathryn Curry of Hopkinton; by her daughter Sally Morris and her husband John of Exeter, NH; 6 grandchildren Kate Morris, Ellie Morris, Sam Morris, Andrew Xavier, Sara Weissinger and Antonio Weissinger. She was preceded in death by her son Curtis S. Weissinger and her siblings, Robert Peterson and Ruth Nelson.

Nancy’s funeral will be held at 1 PM on Friday, July 29, at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no public calling hours. In lieu of flowers kindly consider a donation to the Northborough Historical Society, P.O. Box 661, Northborough, MA 01532.
