Subscription Update Obituary

     Michael R. Shaw, 57 of South Grafton, formerly of Dorchester, passed away on August 30, 2015 at UMass Hospital surrounded by family.

Michael is survived by his wife of twenty-two years, Gwyn T. (Furtado) Shaw; two sons, Michael Shaw of Dorchester and Christopher D. Shaw and his wife Amy of Illinois; his brother, John Shaw and a sister, Marjorie Shaw both of Dorchester; two grandsons, Xavier D. and Zander T. Shaw both of Illinois; two brothers-in-law, Matthew Furtado and his wife Eliza of Hopedale, Jorge Furtado of Osterville, Cape Cod; three nieces, Rebecca Furtado, Victoria Maimone and Holly Begin; two nephews, Charles Whitney and Angelo Maimone. He is predeceased by his brother-in-law, Mark Furtado and a sister-in-law, Laura Ann Furtado.

Michael was born in Boston, a son of the late Ralph A. and Joan E. (McDonough) Shaw. He graduated from Boston Latin and lived in Dorchester most of his life before moving to South Grafton 16 years ago. He served his country proudly in the United States Army. Michael worked a utilities locator for Dig Safe for over 20 years. He was an avid rider, loved his Harley and was a member of the Worcester Chapter of the H.O.G.S. Michael was also a major sports fan especially the Patriots and the Bruins, loved people, laughing and making others laugh.

A period of calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2015 from 4-7 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with his funeral service immediately following at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Veterans, Inc., 69 Grove St, Worcester, MA. 01605.
