Mary (Mary Beth) E. McCarthy, 75, of Charlton died after a lengthy illness on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at UMass Memorial Medical Center, University Campus. She was the wife of William C. Robbie with whom she shared 32 wonderful years.

Born, raised and educated in Worcester, the daughter of the late Agnes B. (Hanlan) and Martin J. McCarthy, Sr., Mary Beth was a 1961 graduate of Commerce High School.

Mary Beth was the copy editor for the Worcester Telegram and Gazette for 40 years until her retirement in 2008. She was also a photographer and the editor of Harrington Corner for the Telegram and Gazette. In her free time, she truly enjoyed photography and spent much time taking photographs of family and coastal scenes from Massachusetts and Maine.

In addition to her husband, Mary Beth is survived by her brother Martin McCarthy and his wife Carol of Brooksville, Florida; nephew Sean McCarthy, nieces Tara Beshai and her husband Paul, Tracy Hanrahan and her husband Edward; great nephews Christopher Beshai, Brendan Hanrahan, Timothy Hanrahan and his wife Lauren, and great great-niece Evelyn Hanrahan; best friend Sandra Brothers; Wayne Robbie and his wife Judith of Sandia Park, New Mexico, and Douglas Robbie and his wife Cheryl of Jacksonville, Florida. Mary Beth was predeceased by her aunt, Helen Riley, who raised her from the age of 8 after her mother’s passing; and her great-nephew, Justin Beshai.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, September 5 beginning at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME before her Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church 596 Cambridge Street in Worcester at 11:30 AM.
