Subscription Update Obituary

      Martina (LeBlanc) LaPlante, 92, died Tuesday, August 22, 2017 in Lanessa Extended Care after a short illness. Her husband of 36 years, David W. LaPlante, Sr., died in 1982.

She leaves 5 children, David W. LaPlante, Jr. and his wife Cynthia of New Baltimore, MI, Martina A. “Tia” Koziak and Denise M. Koszewski, both of Webster, Philemon A. “Phil” LaPlante of Littleton, NH and Eileen R. Gedraitis of Holden; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was looking forward to the birth of her 22nd great-grandchild in February.

She was born in Lewiston, ME on November 9, 1924, the daughter of Philemon A. and Rose Delima (Langevin) LeBlanc and was raised in Rumford, ME. She graduated from Mexico High School in 1942. She moved to Webster in 1948.

Mrs. LaPlante first worked at B & W Footwear. She then was the payroll clerk supervisor at Harr Motor’s Truck Lease Corp. in Worcester for 28 years, retiring in 1994.

She was a communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church where she served as a lector and eucharistic minister. She belonged to the Ladies of Saint Anne and was a weekly adorer at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. She also taught the Christian Doctrine classes for first communion students at the parish for many years. She enjoyed reading, knitting and playing cards.

The funeral will be held Saturday, August 26, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., with a Mass at 10:30 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 16 East Main Street. Burial will be held privately. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, August 25 in the funeral home. Donations in her name may be made to either Lanessa Extended Care Patient Activities Fund, 751 School St., Webster, MA 01570 or to the Southeast Asian Coalition, 484 Main St., Suite 400, Worcester, MA 01608.
