Subscription Update Obituary

     Margaret E. (Dainys) Golas, 95, formerly of Howe Village, died Thursday, April 5 in the Meadows of Leicester, with her family by her side.

Her husband Joseph A. Golas died in 1972. She leaves her devoted daughter Patricia M. Karpowicz of Spencer, her caring and devoted companion, Igor (aka “The Butler”) Ugrinow of Spencer, four grandchildren; Gregory Karpowicz, Melissa Noel, Carolynn Tretheway and Jason Golas, 5 great grandchildren; Jaquelyn & Stephen Golas, Jeremy Tretheway, Erik and Kacey Noel, a great great grandson Adrian Cruz, several nieces and nephews especially her nephew Henry Dainys of TX and niece Diane Briggs of W.VA.,her longtime friend and visitor Sandy Garrepy of Worcester, her doting and caring roommate companion Tammey Carey of Leicester. She is predeceased by her son Joseph P. Golas in 2016, her 4 sisters & 3 brothers and her niece Frances Crowley in 2017.

Margaret was born in Worcester, daughter of Stephen and Frances (Arbachowski) Dainys. She was a machine operator at National Envelope in Worcester for 15 years before retiring. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking/baking and gardening. She was a former member of the Ladies Auxillary Quinsigamond American Legion Post 318 in Worcester.

Margaret thrived on living independently, prior to her residence at the Meadows. She enjoyed sharing her humor and friendship with the office staff and her maintenance men at Howe Village. She also looked forward to the weekly Mass at Howe Village with Fr. Jim.

The family wishes to thank all the wonderful, compassionate,caring staff and providers at The Meadows. She truly loved the daily patient activities of singing and winning at bingo.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 10 from the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church St., Spencer. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Meadows of Leicester, Patient Activity Fund., 111 Huntoon Memorial Hwy., Leicester, Ma. 01542.
