Lucy T. (Lategola) Wigren, age 93 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, November 1, 2011 in St. Vincent Hospital with her family by her side.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Russell Wigren; one daughter, Rosemary Taylor and her husband Richard of West Boylston; two grandsons, Cory and Dylan whom she adored. She also leaves a brother, Michael T. Lategola and his wife Barbara of Norman, Oklahoma; two sisters, Rose Dintino of West Boylston and Italia “Tillie” Tarallo of Worcester and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her two sisters, Mary Shattuck formerly of Worcester and Grace Rahaim formerly of Gardner.

Lucy was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of the late Thomas and Rose (Rubino) Lategola. She graduated from Commerce High School. Lucy worked many years at the former Norton Company. She was a dedicated wife and loving mother and grandmother who always put her family and friends first. “Little Lucy” was a quiet, gentle woman who was loved by everyone. An avid Red Sox fan she watched every game with Russell faithfully. She enjoyed baking, reading, crocheting, vacationing in Wells, Maine and her trips to Foxwoods. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family. She was a member of Saint Christopher retired club, Golden Ages Club of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann Church and the Providence House Ladies Guild. Lucy was also a former treasurer of The Legion of Mary Women’s Guild at Saint Christopher’s.

Family and friends may gather for calling hours in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester on Thursday, November 3rd, from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home before departing for church.

Lucy’s Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 4th in St. Christopher Church, 950 West Boylston St., Worcester. Burial will be Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Lucy’s memory to St. Christopher Church, 950 West Boylston Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
