Larry W. Chasse, 75, affectionately known to many as ‘Monkey,’ passed away peacefully on August 25, 2024, at UMass Memorial Medical Center. Born and raised in Worcester, Larry was the cherished son of William and Wilmer (Crowther) Chasse.
Larry graduated from South High School in Worcester and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology. His dedication to service was exemplified during his 26 years with the Worcester Fire Department on Park Ave, where he served from 1972 to 1998, always with a strong sense of duty and camaraderie with his fellow firefighters. In addition to working for the Fire Department, Larry also drove newspaper trucks for the Telegram and Gazette and had a side job as an Electrician.
On August 16th, 1969, Larry married the love of his life, Maureen Mulhearn, in Worcester, MA. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family, raising four wonderful daughters Joanne, Amy, Pamela, and Caren.
Family was everything to Larry. He treasured the time spent with his loved ones, especially the pool days filled with laughter, Larry was the master of “Dad jokes”, stories, and the warmth of togetherness. A man of many talents, Larry was known for his handiness—whether it was crafting decks or a beautiful mantle for his daughter’s home or lending his electrician skills whenever needed. He was a deep thinker, finding pleasure in the quiet moments of life with a good book, a challenging puzzle, or an intriguing spy thriller.
In his retirement, Larry found a new passion in genealogy, delving deep into his family’s roots and uncovering the rich history of his ancestry. He found joy sharing his discoveries with those he loved. He was also one of the founding members of the Worcester Fire Department Funeral Committee.
Larry will be lovingly missed and remembered by his siblings, Donna Pashain of Tucson, AZ, Ken Chasse and his wife Frances of Yuma, AZ, and Linda Chasse of Worcester; his daughters, Joanne Cahill and her husband, Stephen of Reading, Amy Perez and her husband, Carlos of Worcester, Pamela Carbone and her husband, Jay of Dover, NH and Caren Chasse and her fiancé, Sinclair Browne of Worcester; his grandchildren, Kaylie, Nicholas, Isabelle, Thomas, Sydney, Jonathan, Abigail, Addison, J.J., Olivia and Averie. He is predeceased by his wife, Maureen (Mulhearn) Chasse.
