Kenneth G Kerr, Sr., of Worcester passed away Saturday, November 3, 2012 surrounded by his family. He celebrated his 87th birthday on October 23, 2012.
Kenneth is survived by his children, Thomas M. Kerr of Worcester and Elaine J. Rousseau and her husband Steven J. Rousseau of Shrewsbury, MA; his grandchildren, Kara Richardson of Manchester, CT, Michael Rousseau of Natick, MA, and Danielle (Rousseau) Lemelin of Millbury, MA; his soon to be great grandson; his brother, Brian Kerr of Attleboro, MA, and several nieces and nephews.
His wife, Lucy J. (Nalewski) Kerr died June 3, 1984. Also preceding him in death was his son, Kenneth G. Kerr, Jr. (May 26, 2007); his daughter, Sharon A. Richardson (September 16, 2004) and his sisters, Betty Yaskis and Arlene Davis.
Born in St. Louis, MO. to Alois and Ruth (Krenter) Kerr, he was educated in Worcester until called to serve in the US Army during World War II (1944-1946), in the 5th Infantry Regiment, 71st Division in France, Austria and Germany.
Kenneth was very proud of his 20 year career in the Worcester Fire Department from 1957 until retiring in 1977. He was promoted to Lieutenant February 11, 1973 and his last assignment was Engine 9 at Tatnuck Square in Worcester. He was also a painting and wallpaper contractor.
Kenneth enjoyed life, particularly spending time fishing, camping, playing cards and visiting with family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at Caswell King Funeral Home, 474 Grove St., Worcester, MA. His funeral will be held at on Nov. 14 from the funeral home, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove St. Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.
