Kathleen T. (Viens) DiCicco, 78, of Groton, formerly a long-time resident of Worcester & Rutland, MA, passed away with her daughters by her side on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Rose Monahan Hospice Home.

Kathy was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Russell and Christine (Ferraro) Viens.  She was a graduate of St. Stephen’s School in Worcester.  Kathy worked as a marketing coordinator for over ten years at Sullivan, Garrity & Donnelly Insurance before retirement.  She also had various jobs over her career, including New England Telephone, a hairstylist, and manager at Iandoli’s Market, First Temporary Agency, and Commerce Bank.

Kathy was a member of The Groton’s Women’s Club, St. John’s Church in Worcester and most recently attended mass at St. Catherine Church in Westford. Kathy was a person who loved to give her time to many non-profits.  Over the years, she volunteered at various organizations, including UMass Cancer Center, Veterans Association, St. John’s Food Pantry, and Rose Monahan Hospice Home.  Most recently & passionately, she devoted her time to the Be Like Brit Foundation, an organization developed in memory of her granddaughter Britney Gengel.

Kathy’s husband of 29 years, Richard “Dick” DiCicco passed away in February of 1994.  Her husband, children, and grandchildren always came first in her life, no matter what. She was loved and adored by her grandchildren, who fondly called her Nana. She is survived by her daughters: Cherylann Gengel of Holden and Jodi Sweeney and her husband John of Littleton: three grandchildren, Bernie Gengel of Florida, Richard Gengel and his wife Sarah Ortiz of Westborough and Kara Sweeney of Littleton.  She also leaves behind a wonderful extended family and dear friends who were very special to her.  Kathy is predeceased by her oldest grandchild, Britney Gengel, in 2010 and her sister, Patricia Inangelo, in 2016.

Relatives and friends are invited to a period of calling hours on Friday, September 2, 2022, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Her services will be held on Saturday, September 3rd, with a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am in St. John’s Church, 40 Temple, Worcester. Burial next to her husband will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

Kathy’s family has asked that instead of flowers, you kindly consider donations in her name be made to The Be Like Brit Foundation, Inc., 66 Pullman St., Worcester, MA. 01606.
