Subscription Update Obituary

Johnny V. Bartek, Jr., 69, lifelong resident of Rutland, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, August 26, 2022. He was born in Worcester and raised in Rutland. He was a son of the late Johnny and Carolyn (Openshaw) Bartek.

Johnny graduated from Wachusett Regional High School and went on to enjoy a long career in maintenance for several local companies including Continental Bakery and Table Talk Pie Company. At one point, he owned and operated the J. Bartek Trucking Company. His dedication and commitment to his community was evident during his service on the Rutland Fire Department, retiring as Captain after more than sixteen years of service.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Rutland. Johnny was also a member of the Rutland Sportsman’s Club as well as the Lions Club. He was a member of the Hubbardston Rod & Gun Club where he played softball. Friends and family of Johnny all knew he was a sports enthusiast and will be remembered as an avid New England Patriots fan.

He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his daughter, Holly Tsourides and her husband, Marc of Worcester; his son, Jeffrey Bartek and his wife, Daymian of Rutland, and daughter Gail Marrama; his three sisters, Carolyn Root and her husband, David of Rutland, Mary Kennedy and her husband, Daniel of Holden and Rosalee Alexandrovich and her husband, Santi of Rutland; his five grandchildren, Alexa, Brady, Sophia, Samantha and Alex; his nieces and nephews, Chrissy, Danny, Jill, Phil and Susan and their spouses; and his close friends, Gary and Wendy Leblanc.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 1 in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 2 at the First Congregational Church of Rutland, 264 Main Street, Rutland. Following the service, Johnny will be laid to rest at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Johnny’s name may be made to the Rutland Volunteer Fire Brigade, Old Station Restoration, 240 Main Street, Rutland, MA 01543.
