Joanne (Vail) Pike, 69, of Charlton, MA entered into heaven on February 5, 2023,surrounded by her loving family. Born to the late William and Katherine (Roughan) Vail, Sr., she was the beloved wife of 49 years to Jeffrey A. Pike, Sr. and cherished mother of Stephanie Pike (Jeffrey Granville) of Rochdale, MA, Christina Pike-Kulvete (Ryan Kulvete) of Framingham, MA, Jacquelyn Pike Flynn (Kenneth Flynn) of Quincy, MA, Jeffrey Pike, Jr. (Gislaine Joseph) of North Scituate, RI, and Adam (Christina)Pike of Charlton, MA. She was the loving Nana of Jack, Norah and Sam Kulvete, Amelia and Levi Pike, and Julianna Flynn. She was the proud member of the Vail triplets, including Elizabeth “Bette” Vail Bartley and Robert “Butch” Vail. She also leaves her siblings, Maureen Vail Gannon, Katherine McWey, Mary O’Grady, Patricia Lynch, Anne McGrail, and Thomas Vail. She leaves behind many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death byher brother William “Fred” Vail, Jr.
Joanne grew up in the Webster Square area of Worcester, MA. She graduated from St. Peter’s Central Catholic High School. She was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years, retiring in 2019.
Joanne was a devoted Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Charlton. She was very proud of her Irish heritage, having travelled to Ireland with her sisters and made memories for a lifetime. She also looked forward to her yearly girls weekends with her best friends Diane, Dolores, Mary, Bette, and Joanne.
She was an avid birdwatcher, her favorite being the cardinal, gardener and a talented artist. She was a dedicated supporter of Breast Cancer Research and participated in a number of Breast Cancer walks with her daughters, sisters and nieces. Above all, she loved her family, her husband, children and grandchildren were her world. She attended every game, recital, or school event that her grandchildren participated in, always proudly cheering them on. She spoke with her children daily, who will miss her for eternity.
Family and Friends may call on the family on Friday, February 10 from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St, Worcester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 11 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 10 H Putnam Rd, Charlton, with internment following in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
