Joann F. Mercando, 72, of Charlton, passed away surrounded by the ones she loved, Saturday, November 26th, 2022, after a brief illness.
Joann was born in Worcester, one of three children of Frank J. and Ida (Rose) Mercando. Raised in Worcester, she graduated from Commerce High School. Immediately after graduation, Joann accepted a position in the billing office of St. Vincent Hospital and worked there until her retirement in 2018. At that time, Joann moved to Charlton to live with her companion, life partner and soulmate Robert F. Eager. They met over 25 years ago, and together they enjoyed celebrating with family and friends and life in love together.
Joann is survived by her love, Robert; his children, she treated as her own, Timothy and his wife Catie, Patrick and his wife Holly, and their children Kaylee, Averi, and Finnegan, a brother, Anthony J. Mercando and his wife Sharon of Greenville, N.C.; nieces, Gina O’Mara and her husband Matthew, Kristen Vincent and her husband Jamie, and Nino Mercando; niece-in-law, Nancy Buffone and great-nieces and nephews, Maxx and Grace Buffone, Ellie and John O’Mara, Logan Ray, and Sophia and Reagan Vincent. She was predeceased by her parents, a sister Sandra Buffone, brother-in-law Joseph Buffone, and nephew John Buffone.
A compassionate and giving daughter, sister, companion, aunt, and friend, Joann always made everyone feel special. She enjoyed spending time with Bob, especially running their morning errands to Ted’s, the Post Office and McDonald’s. Joann was infamously known for her love of dolphins, especially the Miami Dolphins, and making stuffed Italian cookies at Christmastime. She also enjoyed spoiling her nieces, nephews and grandchildren and talking on the phone every day with her best friend, Linda. Joann was a self-less, beautiful soul with a huge heart and will be sadly missed.
