James “Jim” R. Galligan, 79, of Spencer, MA and North Port, FL, passed away peacefully on August 9th, 2024. Jim was born on October 29, 1944, to Dorthy Schenk-Galligan in Cresson, PA. At the age of seventeen he joined the military where he served in the Brown Water Navy in Vietnam. Jim served his country until 1966 upon which he was honorably discharged. After his service, he worked as a technical field engineer during which he was able to travel the world, something he was passionate about. In the next step of his career, he joined the United States Postal Service where he worked until he retired.
Jim was an avid reader of novels with a special interest in Native American history. He cared for and loved animals, having had many rescue dogs throughout his life. He enjoyed listening to classical music with his wife Sophie. He loved nature and spent his time gardening, fishing, camping and just being outdoors. He was a longtime motorcycle enthusiast, having gone on many motorcycle trips with his best friend, Mac. He was caring and loving to all those around him and always had a smile on his face. He will be greatly missed.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Sophie Galligan-Biernacki and his adored dog Daisy; his beloved sons, Patrick (with his wife, Loretta) and Timothy Galligan, along with his step-daughter, Ann Jazwinski; his cherished sister Jean Adams (with her husband, Gary) and their family; his grandchildren Jack, Thomas, Shawn and Dan; his best-friend Mac (with his wife, Karen); and his many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church at 1052 Pleasant St, Worcester, MA on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 9:30am.
