James E. “Sonny” Angell Sr., 73, passed away peacefully September 28, 2009 at home after an illness.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Olga C. (Prince) Angell; six children: Joanne Hanna, April Wheeler and her husband Timothy both of Worcester, Beverly Welch and her husband John of Easthampton, CT, Alice Odaffer and her husband George of Jupiter, FL, Mary LaHair and her husband Roger of North Grafton, James E. Angell Jr. of Spencer; two sisters: Sandra Singly and her husband Rev. Butch Singly of TN, Gail Angell of Northborough; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His son, James Lee, and two sisters: Beverly Marie Ramsey and Dorothy Byron, all passed before him.
Mr. Angell was born June 5, 1930 in Worcester, the son of the late James L. and Bertha (St Dennis) Angell. He lived 25 years in Leicester, before retiring to Florida for 20 years, returning to Grafton in 2006. Sonny worked 40 years in the asphalt paving business with Roy Harrison Paving and Clark Asphalt Paving Co. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who truly enjoyed his family. He was a 4th Degree member of The Leicester Council Knights of Columbus. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to UMass Memorial Hospice, UMass Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 2795, Worcester, MA 01613-9938.
All are invited to calling hours and visitation Thursday, October 1st from 5 to 8 pm in THE RONEY FUNERAL HOME, 152 Worcester St, North Grafton. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, October 2nd at 10 am in St Mary’s Catholic Church, 17 Waterville St, North Grafton. He will be laid to rest privately. All attending Friday are respectfully asked to go directly to St Mary’s Church, there will be no gathering at the funeral home before his Mass.
