Subscription Update Obituary

Ilse E. (Becker) Wegert, 96 passed away peacefully in her sleep while in the comfort of her home on Saturday, November 20, 2021. Her Husband, Bruno H. Wegert, died in 1992.

Ilse is survived by her loving daughters, Inge Thompson of Los Angeles, CA, Vera Cunningham of Leicester, her niece Heidi and her husband Michael Malone of Spencer, her grandchildren, Amy and her husband Michael Rybczyk of Manchester, New Hampshire, David Adrian of Rutland, Jennifer and her husband Alex Van Haaff of Los Angeles, CA as well as many nieces and nephews in Germany.

Ilse was born in Hamburg, Germany, daughter of Erna Becker and Otto Knüpfer. Ilse grew up in Hamburg, then moved to Glücksburg, Germany where she met her husband Bruno, they lived in Glücksburg before immigrating to the United States in 1956. Ilse had learned to speak and write English by watching television when she moved to Worcester. Her first job in Worcester was working for Paper Craft, she also had many small jobs including catering and other jobs for a local caterer in Worcester. From there, she landed a job as the Assistant Cook then became the Head Cook for the Paul Revere Insurance Company in Worcester. She worked there until she retired in 1986. Ilse and her husband moved to Holden, in 1974 and lived there until 2008, when she moved to Grand View Estates in Leicester. She and her daughters each having their own homes at Grand View Estates.

Mrs. Wegert was avid crafter who loved to create many unique items, which she freely gave to family and friends. She also spent many years donating handmade blankets to those in need for local churches and rest homes in the area. Ilse also loved to create creations in the kitchen and had a talent for baking and always baked for the holidays. Her Kahula infused cookies and home-made Eggnog were huge hits with friends and family. She also made unique birthday cakes from scratch each one more unique than the last. Ilse and Bruno were very active members of the Germania Social Club of Worcester as well the German Aid Society of Boston.

The Family would like to thank all those who cared for her over the past two years at Whitney Place in Northborough.

Services are being help privately for the family. The family has entrusted Callahan, Fay and Caswell Life Celebration Home for funeral arrangements at their facility on 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester, MA . All are welcomed to view services on our live stream link below on Monday, November 29th at 11AM.
