Subscription Update Obituary

Georgette T. (Gillespie) Carey, 95, of Williamsville Road, died on Thursday afternoon, March 28, 2024 at Quaboag Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center in West Brookfield.

Born in Barton, Vermont on February 9, 1929, she was the daughter of Joseph and Aldea (Beliveau) Gillespie and grew up in Barton.

On February 3, 1951, Georgette married Frederick E. Carey and they enjoyed 29 years of marriage until his death on November 18, 1980.

Georgette had worked in the Needle Room at the Torrington Co. in Orange, as well as Duall Plastics and the J.F. McElwain Shoe Shop, both of Athol, before retiring early to care for her grandson Will.

Georgette was an amazing baker, especially her apple pie. She and Frederick also raised and raced harness racing horses and had won many races.

The family is appreciative and thankful of the wonderful care given Georgette by the staff of Quaboag Rehabilitation and Skilled Care.

Survivors include her children, Carmen Gelinas and her husband Bill of Barre and Michael Carey and his wife Lynn of Livermore, CA; grandchildren, Heidi Carey and Neil Carey and his wife Crystal, all of Livermore, CA, and Will Gelinas of Hardwick; great grandchildren, Audrey Carey and Haley Carey of Livermore, CA; and several nieces and nephews. Georgette also leaves behind three children she baby sat for that were like her own grandchildren, Natalie, Ben and Sabrina.

Besides her parents, Georgette was predeceased by her sisters, Simone Vorce of Orange and Rolande Lowe of Leominster.

Calling hours will be Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, Orange.

Interment will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.

Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange, is assisting the family.
