George grew up in Worcester, where he graduated with the class of 1979 from North High School. He went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Worcester State College then soon after his master’s degree in psychology from Assumption College.
He worked at Memorial Hospital for 35 years in various roles including orderly and mental health worker. He decided to further his education and earned a degree in Nursing. For the past 10 years he was a nurse at Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital.
George loved to tell a good joke. Making people smile came easy to him. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and cheered for all the Boston teams as well. He was a voracious reader. He enjoyed all forms of entertainment, from his extensive music collection to Broadway plays. George loved dogs and was eager to engage with them. He was a very religious man and was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Church. Above all, he loved to spend time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susan (Bonadio) Monfreda; his son, James Monfreda of Jefferson; and his best friend Brian Patenaude of Rutland as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and many other close and valued friends. He is predeceased by his daughter, Jordan Elizabeth Monfreda, who passed away in 2003.
George’s family would like to thank the dedicated nurses and staff at the ACC Cancer Center for their loving care for the past four years. They would also like to extend their thanks to the loving care that the CCU nurses and team provided during this difficult time.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with George’s family from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, February 25th, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
