George D. Goodney, 88, of Rutland, formerly of Shrewsbury and Vero Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025. He is the loving husband of the late Madeleine (Girouard) Goodney.

George was born in Worcester, the son of Henry and Edna (Grenon) Goodney. He joined the US Navy in 1956 and proudly served in the Reserves until 1962. He worked for many years as a Telecommunications Technician with The New England Phone Company, eventually retiring from AT&T. George was a devoted Red Sox fan and enjoyed spending his time with his grandchildren.

He leaves behind his 5 children, Lisa Phipps and her husband John of Berlin, David Goodney and his wife Donna of Naples, FL, James Goodney and his wife Karen of Rutland, Joanne Moss and her husband Thomas of Leicester, and Terrie Carpino and her husband Michael of High Point, NC; his 13 grandchildren; and his beloved first great grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his wife Madeleine, and 5 brothers, Leo, Frank, Richard, Eddy, and Raymond.

George’s family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Salmon Hospice for their outstanding care and support during this time.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday, March 20th from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street in Holden. A memorial service will follow at 5:00 PM in the funeral home. George will be laid to rest privately at Worcester County Memorial Park at a later date.
