Gene Berry, age 83, died September 22, 2021 in Casa Grande, AZ after a period of declining health. He was raised in Auburn and lived many years in Worcester before retiring and moving to Casa Grande. He worked many years for the City of Worcester as a master mechanic, first for the WPD and then for the WFD, retiring in 2000.

Gene is survived by the love of his life of 59 years, Linda Berry (Dickie) of Casa Grande; his daughters, Brenda Melia (James) of Worcester, Karyn Dunn (Jay) and Ann Borey (Dave) both of Dudley, and his son, Robert Berry (Pam) of Charlton. He was Pipai to nine grandchildren, Kyle, Nolan, Matthew, Larissa, Trevor, Chase, Gehrig, Alexa, and Aaron. He also leaves a sister, Elizabeth Long of Worcester and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Esther (Benoit) and Robert A. Berry; a brother, Earl Berry and a sister, Carol Connor.

Gene was an avid athlete and sports fan. He enjoyed bowling, golf, and especially softball. He was a local past president of ASA softball and umpired for both ASA and USSSA softball. He was a longtime member of the Worcester lodge of BPOE and the Lincoln Sportsman Club. Gene remained an avid New England sports fan after moving to AZ and proudly wore all the gear he received after each championship win. He was famous for his ability to bake the best pies and apple cakes from scratch, often sharing his wares with family and friends.

Please join Gene’s family for a period of remembrance from 12 noon to 2 pm on May 14, 2022 at Athy Memorial Home 111 Lancaster St, Worcester. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
