Francis L. Walsh, Jr., 86, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, August 2, 2022. Fran was born in Worcester to Francis Leo Walsh, and Catherine (Flavin) Walsh.

Fran grew up in Worcester. He graduated from St. John’s High School before obtaining both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Worcester State College. In 1958, Fran married Mary (Plummer) Walsh. He had a gift for educating students in mathematics and went on to enjoy a career as a teacher at the former Holden Junior High School for seven years. He then taught at Melican Middle School in Northborough, before retiring in 1998. Fran proudly served in the United States Army Reserves for six years and was a devout member of Immaculate Conception Church in Worcester.

Upon retiring as a teacher, Fran and Mary traveled for a month to the four countries of the British Isles. He then returned to Melican Middle School as a substitute teacher and mathematics tutor for the next fourteen years. In 2013, the pair traveled with daughter Anne and husband Tom to Rome and Tuscany, Italy. Most of their traveling in later years was in their beloved New England, most often to the coast of Maine.

Along with being an outstanding husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Fran was an exceptional educator who loved his profession.

In addition to his beloved wife, Mary of sixty-four years, Fran is also survived by his daughter Anne Walsh and her husband, Thomas (Zink) of Long Beach, CA; his sons, Michael Walsh and his wife, Michele of Northborough, James Walsh and his wife, Noelle of Raleigh, NC; John Walsh and his wife, Dori of Shrewsbury; David Walsh and his wife, Darlene of Berlin, MA; and Matthew Walsh and his wife, Kelly of Barre; his brother, James Walsh and his wife, Marcia of Webster; his niece, Stephanie Walsh; his nephews, Christopher Walsh, and Daniel Walsh and his wife Carolyn; sixteen grandchildren – Nicholas and his wife, Amanda, Connor, Chandler, Marykate, Patrick, Jessica, Maddison, Ryan, David, Cassidy, Erin, Declan, Maria, Emerson, Beckett, Louisa; and two great-grandchildren – Isabella and Colton John.
