Francis (Fran) G. Kamendulis, 78, a longtime resident of Shrewsbury, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2012 in UMASS Medical Center surrounded by his wife and children.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Dorothy (Fresolo) Kamendulis; his son, Francis X. Kamendulis of Spencer; three daughters, Paula O’Leary and her husband Richard of Leominster, Linda LeMay and her husband Jim of Shrewsbury and Lisa Kamendulis of Monrovia, IN; two sisters, Bernice Backes of Mesa, AZ and Irene Hajko of Hingham, MA; ten grandchildren, Joanna, Angela and Patricia Kamendulis, Richard and Thomas O’Leary, and Kristen, Paul, Kayla, Jeffrey and Erin LeMay. Also surviving are nieces, Kathryn Hajko and Lynn Bach, and nephews, Paul and Michael Kamendulis, who were more like brothers to him. A brother, Stanley Kamendulis and a sister, Veronica Lesh-White predeceased him.
Fran was born in Worcester, son of the late Walter C. and Mary (Ulas) Kamendulis, and lived in Worcester for 27 years, before moving to Shrewsbury in 1960. He was a graduate of Classical High School, the Massachusetts School of Radio and TV and was a veteran of the Army, serving during the Korean War. Fran worked for Alden Electronics in Westborough for 37 years, retiring in 1996 as purchasing manager.
Fran was member a of Saint Anne’s Church in Shrewsbury and the Friends Men’s club of Shrewsbury. A major enjoyment was his active involvement in the Retired Men’s Club of Greendale. He served the RMCG as past president and coordinated countless trips and activities for the group of over 300 active members, many of which became good friends to him. He was an avid golfer and bowler and enjoyed fishing, boating, watching sports – especially his grandchildren’s games, and woodworking, which included making musical instruments. His love for music brought him great happiness.
Calling hours for Francis will be held on Wednesday January 25th, from 5 – 8 p.m. at the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His funeral will be held on Thursday with a Mass at St. Anne’s Church, Shrewsbury at 10 a.m. Francis will be laid to rest at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton following Mass.
