Subscription Update Obituary

Sister Elizabeth Calcagni, SNDdeN, 89, passed away Monday, October 7, 2024 at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center in Worcester.

Sister Elizabeth was born in Worcester, daughter of Oracular J. and Ann E. (Matthew) Calcagni.

She graduated from Ascension High School, Worcester, and entered the Sisters of Notre Dame in 1954. She graduated from Emmanuel College, Boston with a BA in Spanish/Education and earned her MA in Education/child psychology from Wheelock College, Boston. She became certified in Montessori Education in 1968.

Sister Elizabeth was a school teacher at Notre Dame affiliated schools including, Holy Redeemer School, Boston, St. Michael’s School, Hudson, St. Charles School, Woburn, Notre Dame Academy, Hingham and Notre Dame Children’s Class, Milton. Sister joined the staff of the Notre Dame Montessori School, Dorchester in 1973, she worked there as the director of preschool and staff development for over 37 years.

Sister Elizabeth leaves her sisters in religion, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. She was predeceased by her brother and his wife, Kenneth and Priscilla Calcagni and three nephews.

Sister Elizabeth’s funeral will be held Friday, October 18 in St. Christopher’s Church, 265 Mount Vernon St., Dorchester, with a visitation period at 10 a.m. followed by Sharing of Memories at 10:30 a.m. and a Mass at 11 a.m.  Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton at a later date.
