Eleanore G (Cross) Mallett, 100, of Worcester, died on Wednesday, February 19 at CareOne of Millbury.
Eleanore was the proud Matriarch of her family, loving and nurturing five generations. She was gentle, kind and full of grace. In her 100 years she has lived through 17 presidents, (her least favorites being Bush and Trump) WWII, Korean and Vietnam wars, the depression, the death of all her siblings and two of her children. We often playfully teased her that she outlived the Queen and Betty White. She also experienced happy times in those 100 years, watching her family grow and expand to five generations. Her family was what was most important to her as she quietly oversaw and guided their lives over all those years.
Eleanore is predeceased by her parents; Kenneth and Florence (Donnell) Cross, her brother, Kenneth Cross, sisters, Phyllis Fisher and Shirley Cross; her daughter, Judith Stolberg and her husband Stephen, her son Donald “Duck” Mallett, and grandson David “Cubby” Mallett. She is survived by her son, David Mallett; her Grandchildren; Marie Shepherd and her husband James, Jean Baril and her husband Michael, Nikki Evans, Marlena Green and her husband Brett, Great-Grandchildren; Sarah Marks, Samantha Pong, Alex and Max Shepherd, Gabriel and Adelaide Green, Great-Great Grandchildren; Dameon and Jaxson Medina and Ava and Cole Marks, and many nieces and nephews.
Eleanore worked at the Wonder Market in her earlier years, where we were fortunate that she befriended the Pedone family, and learned the recipe for meatballs and sauce. She then worked for Red Gold of Boston for many years as a bookkeeper before her retirement. She developed many friendships over the years. She was an avid Celtics fan and looked forward to watching the games and cheering on her team. She loved to cook for her family using the many cookbooks on her bookshelf. She then passed down many of those recipes to the generations after her.
The family would like to thank the staff at CareOne Millbury for the gentle and kind care they provided for Ellie in her final days.
Eleanore will be interred along with her son, Donald “Duck” Mallett on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 10:30 am at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Ave, Paxton, MA, Garden of Heritage II section.
