Eleanor F. (Donahue) Looney, 90, of Paxton, passed away Wednesday, November 23 in St. Vincent Hospital.

Her husband of 49 years, Michael F. Looney died in 2005. She leaves two children, her daughter Eileen A. Quinn and her husband, Thomas P. Quinn and her son Michael F. Looney Jr. all of Paxton; three grandsons, Thomas P. Quinn, Jr. and is wife, Laura of Rutland, Timothy M. Quinn of Worcester and Michael C. Looney and his wife, Caitlin of West Boylston; two great-children, Riley Quinn and Mackenzie Looney; a sister, Irene Daly of Nevada along with several nieces and nephews. Eleanor was the oldest of the Donahue clan. Three of her siblings, Thomas H. Donahue, Jr., Mary E. Shea and Bernadine Sather predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Thomas H. and Eleanor B. (O’Rourke) Donahue and graduated from South High School and Worcester State Teacher’s College.

Eleanor began her teaching career in Shrewsbury at the Walter J Patton School where she taught fourth grade for 2 years. After she had her children, she returned to teaching in the Worcester Public Schools where she taught Kindergarten for 26 years. Initially she taught Kindergarten at Woodland Street School for a few years and then she moved to teach Kindergarten at Flagg Street School, where she worked until she retired. She had a great love for children. Upon retirement she continued caring and teaching her grandsons, who she always held near and dear to her heart.

She was a former member of the MTA, NEA AND EAW. She was a member of the Worcester State University Alumni Association. Additionally, she was a member of the Paxton Mother’s Club where she loved attending their holiday luncheons and fashion shows. Additionally, she was a longtime member of Saint Columba Church.
Eleanor loved, gardening and crafts, she especially enjoyed hanging her flower baskets up in the front of her home every spring along with making wreaths and decorations for her home for every season of the year.
Eleanor loved her trips to Cape Cod, Kittery & Ogunquit Maine. Her trips to Disney in Orlando with her husband and family will always hold a special place in her heart. Every summer, she enjoyed spending time in Cape Cod with her family in Dennis Port. She looked forward to going to the beach, dining out, swimming and shopping with her family.

Eleanor devoted her life to children and always had a smile on her face when she was with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Eleanor was always loving and kind to everyone. She will be greatly missed by her family.

Visiting Hours are Tuesday, Nov. 29, from 4 to 7 at Fay Brothers Life Celebration Home, 1 West Boylston St., West Boylston. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 10AM in St. Columba Church, 18 Richard Ave. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park.
