Subscription Update Obituary

Edward John Gill, Sr., 96, died Tuesday, July 5th at home. He is survived by Edward J. (Maureen) Gill, Jr., M.D. of Richmond, VA, Thomas J. (Julie) Gill of LaPlata, MD, Timothy K. Gill of Coventry, CT, Mary E. Gill of Richmond, VA, Nancy M. (Michael) Gorneau of Richmond, VA, 9 grandchildren and 8 great grand children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen T. (Kelly) (2006), son, John P. Gill (2004) and sister, Eleanor Gill (1940).

Ed was born in Worcester, MA the son of John T. and Sarah V. (Doyle) Gill. Eddie proudly served in the Civil Air Patrol and earned his private pilot license and loved to fly. He graduated from South High School and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served, the country he loved, during WWII.

He was honorably discharged from the Navy as a disabled veteran and became a Charter member of the American Legion Post 341. Upon returning from the Navy he worked for the New England Telephone Company and retired as an engineer after 40 years of service.

He was a dedicated member of the Telephone Pioneers and loved serving the children of the Perkins School for the Blind through the Worcester chapter of Talking Book Repair shop that he started.

Ed was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Angels Parish and a Fourth Degree knight in the Knights of Columbus – Bishop O’Reilly Assembly.

The funeral Mass is Monday, July 18th, at 10:45 AM with calling hours from 9:45 to 10:40 AM at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be immediately following the Mass at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue, Paxton, MA.
