Subscription Update Obituary

    Edward D. Lamoreaux, 83, of Glenwood Road, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 in his home after an illness.

    He leaves his wife of 51 years, Virginia G. (Gale) Lamoreaux; two daughters, Ruth E. Hutchins and her husband Brian of Kingston, NH and Donna L. Smith and her husband Bruce of Pomfret, CT.; a sister, Dorothy Charbonneau of FL; a sister-in-law, Barbara Prentiss and her husband Arthur of Saco, ME; two grandsons, Brian and Jeffrey Smith; and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Robert and Ephriam Lamoreaux predeceased him. He was born in Worcester the son of Edward J. and Dorothy (Chaffee) Lamoreaux, was raised in Leicester and lived in Rutland for 51 years.

    Mr. Lamoreaux was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. For several years he was a baking instructor for the Massachusesetts Department of Education. He owned and operated Lamoreaux Home Bakery, a home-based bakery in Rutland. Previously, he worked as a baker for the VA Hospital in Rutland, Worcester Polytechnic Institute and the UMass Medical Healthcare System. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Rutland and the "Happy Sams" Camping Club. He was an avid fisherman, loved camping and together with his wife enjoyed square dancing with the Happy Homesteaders in Shrewsbury.

    Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 30th in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral service for Edward will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 1st in the First Congregational Church of Rutland, 264 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. Burial will be private in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rutland Fire Brigade Rescue Fund, 240 Main Street, Rutland, MA 01543.
