Edmund “Ed” T. Skonieczny, 89, died Thursday, October 23, 2014, at Saint Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester. He was a former resident of Southbridge before moving to E. Brookfield.He is survived by his wife of 51 years Violet M. (Edwards) Skonieczny. They were married January 28, 1963. He also leaves his sons Thomas Skonieczny and his wife Paula of Southbridge, Steven Skonieczny of Tiltonville, Ohio, and stepson Ronald A. Brown of Southbridge, and 2 daughters Diane Cost of Tiltonville, Ohio, and Sheryl Blancato and her husband Joseph of E. Brookfield, 14 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Heonim “Henry” Skonieczny, Jr..
Ed proudly served in the US Navy aboard the USS Eberly, DD430, and the USS Vixen, during World War II, achieving the rank of SAL 2nd Class.. He was a very active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6055, serving as the Commander for ten years, and also served as the District 8th Commander of the VFW. He was also a member of the American Legion in Sturbridge, and also enjoyed traveling where he served as the president of the Royal Travelers Club for 11 years..
Ed was a longtime Southbridge businessman, owning E.T.S. Co. and Ed’s Typewriter Service for over 50 years. He previously was employed at the former Royal Typewriter, and Underwood Co. both of Worcester.
The funeral for Ed will be Saturday, October 25, 2014, from Sansoucy Funeral Home 40 Marcy Street Southbridge with a Mass at 10AM at Notre Dame Church 446 Main Street Southbridge. A calling hour will be held from 8:30-9:30AM at the funeral home prior to the mass. Burial with Military Honors will follow the mass at Worcester County Memorial Park Paxton, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter P.O.Box 136 111 Young Road E. Brookfield, MA 01515.
