Douglas J. “Doug” Nephew, Sr., 89, passed away November 1, 2022 at home following an illness. His wife of 63 years, Joan (Denaris) Nephew passed away in 2017. He leaves his children Darlene Price and husband Robert of Holden, Joanne Coyle and partner Thomas Johnston of CT, Daniel and wife Jesse of Florida and Darin and wife Denise of Grafton with whom he lived, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild along with several nieces and nephews, his brother Garry of Florida. He was predeceased by his sons Douglas Jr. and Glenn and his siblings William and Barbara Brewster.

Doug was born May 30, 1933 in Malone, NY, son of the late Florence (Quintal) and Harold Nephew. He lived in Northborough, MA before eventually moving to Grafton with his wife Joan, where they raised their family. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the Grafton Fire Dept., Ladder 1, from 1967 – 1983. He worked as a Supervisor at Norton Company in Worcester for 27 years, retiring at age 59.

Through the years, he enjoyed being on a bowling league, square dancing and, most of all, he loved going camping and fishing with his family and friends. Doug & Joan enjoyed trips to Myrtle Beach and winters in Florida. He was a kind and loving father, father-in-law, grandfather (Papa) and great-grandfather that will be lovingly missed, but not forgotten.

All are welcome to gather with Douglas’ family and friends Friday, November 11th from 5pm to 7pm followed by a prayer service at 7pm at Roney Funeral Home 152 Worcester St. N. Grafton, MA 01536. He will then be laid to rest at Worcester County Memorial Park on Richards Ave in Paxton Saturday, November 12th at 11:00am.
