Donald G. Martin, beloved husband, father and grandfather, 83, of Spencer, MA, passed away on December 28, 2013 in St. Vincent Hospital due to complications from a fall. He leaves behind his wife, Beverly Martin, and six children: Pamela Masshardt and her husband Carl of Auburn, Richard Martin of Lakeland, FL, John Martin and his wife Angela of Westfield, Lorri Murphy and her husband Peter of Spencer, Jody Bronnes and her husband Jeff of Royalston and Daniel Ross of Harrison, ME. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Ellee Bronnes Newton and her husband Andrew, Shelby Bronnes, Dan Masshardt and his wife Heather, Joe Masshardt and his wife Stacy, Steven Martin and his wife Jen, David Martin and his fiancée Christina, Derek Seastrand and his wife Pam, Sean Martin and his wife Mary Beth, Elise Comelchook and her husband Pete, Tiffany Martin and Ricky Martin. In addition, he leaves behind his great-grand children: Caleb, Isaac, Anna, Eliza, and Sadie. Many good friends who thought the world of him will also miss him. His first wife, Lorraine Goodney Martin, a brother, Bob Martin, and daughter-in-law, Gail Martin predeceased him.
Don Martin was born May 2, 1930 in Worcester, MA to Albert and Marion Goulding Martin. He lived in Paxton for 12 years and then made his home on Stiles Lake in Spencer where he has lived the last 40 years. He served in the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Airforce. He worked many years for Hammond Plastics before retiring and going into business for himself as Martin Construction. He enjoyed many years traveling with his fifth wheel as well as watching his favorite teams Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins. He liked to fish and putter around. Everyone knew that Daddy/Grandpa could fix anything!
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Deborah Ford and her staff for all of their help and support during this difficult time. We would also like to thank the nurses in critical care at St. Vincent Hospital for their patience and excellent care while Don was there.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, Dec. 31 at 10:00 AM in MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Monday, Dec. 30 from 5:00-8:00 PM in the funeral home.
