David Norman Hjulstrom, 83, died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, March 25, 2009.

   Norman leaves his wife of 56 years, Barbara Ann (Ward) Hjulstrom; a son, Roger P. Hjulstrom of Blacksburg, VA; a daughter, Sandra J. Namin and her husband Mehrdad of West Boylston; and four grandchildren, Matthew and Sherry Namin, and Emily and Nathan Hjulstrom. A son, Eric D. Hjulstrom died in 2002, and two brothers, William and Herbert, also predeceased him.

   He was born in Shrewsbury, the son of Charles William and Anna Marie (Anderson) Hjulstrom. He lived most of his life in central Massachusetts, including Princeton and most recently Millbury. Afflicted with Parkinson's disease, he moved with his wife to Virginia two years ago to live with their son.

   Norman served in the United States Navy where he attended Radio School and served during World War II aboard the USS Columbia in the Pacific and Mediterranean. He later worked as a sign painter and was employed 20 years with the Worcester Telegram and Gazette as a compositor. He also attended Butera School of Art in Boston, and worked as a graphic typesetter at Data General and other area companies. He enjoyed camping, flea markets, books and painting. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

   Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service for Norman at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 28th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
