Subscription Update Obituary

Daniel J. Wrixon, 86, passed away Tuesday, April 15 at home, surrounded by his family.

He leaves his wife of 56 years, Joanne L. (Coffey) Wrixon; four children, Daniel Wrixon, Jr. and his wife, Deirdre of Cohasset, Deborah Swift and her husband, Paul of Worcester, John Veroneau and his wife, Gloria of Worcester and Joseph Wrixon and his wife, Jennifer of Worcester; nine grandchildren, Lennox, Finnegan, Kayla, Paul, Calista, Douglas, Macklin, Mary and Maeve; two great grandchildren, Taylor and Nyiah and nieces and nephews. A granddaughter, Danielle and four siblings, Anna Stack, Mary Wrixon, Eileen Salvadore and Robert Wrixon predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of John and Bridget (Sherlock) Wrixon and graduated from St. Stephen’s High School. He was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean War, serving aboard the U.S.S. Mount McKinley.

Dan was a Worcester Firefighter for 29 years, retiring in 2000. He began his career in 1971 serving in the Rescue Squad at the former Central Division, Ladder 2 at Grove Street, Engine 9 at Tatnuck Square and lastly served on Engine 3 at Grove Street.

He was a member of the Vernon Hill American Legion Post, #435, the Knights of Columbus, Alhambra Council #88, the former Worcester Lodge of Elk. He enjoyed playing in dart and golf leagues with his friends. Dan also owned the former Danny’s Corner Tavern in Worcester.

Visiting Hours are Tuesday, April 22 from 4 to 7pm at Callahan Fay Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, April 23 at 10am in St. Peter’s Church, 931 Main St. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Worcester VNA Hospice at www.vnacare.org or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
