Cynthia (Van Batenburg) Plitnick was born on October 30, 1948 in Ogden, Utah. She was reunited with her savior, Jesus, on August 16, 2024. She was 75.

Cynthia was one of six children and moved to Worcester, Massachusetts from Utah with her mother, Shirley (Finacom) Van Batenburg, along with Scott, Craig, Darcy, Ray and Clay (birth order) in 1963. She was the second oldest. Her son, Chris, was from a previous marriage. Cynthia remarried Al Plitnick in 1979. They lived in Oxford, Massachusetts until retiring to Myrtle Beach, SC in 2001.

Cynthia started her life living with her parents, Raymond and Shirley, and Scott in the basement of her grandmother’s home in Ogden. As more siblings were born, Raymond built a new house next door. Her nickname “Queeny” was given to Cynthia by her father. It fit. As a child her life was one of protecting and taking care of her younger sister and brothers. She was smart, adorable and loved her family. After they all moved to Worcester (due to a divorce) she helped her mother take care of her brothers and sister. This caring nature never left her. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend. She loved Jesus as much as any person.

When Cynthia was in her 30’s she graduated from Worcester State College with a Masters degree in Human Services. Her working career included jobs that helped those less fortunate have a better life. She worked at the Salvation Army counseling patients for many years. At her 60th birthday party there was pure joy. You never received a card or gift in the mail without words from the bible helping you understand how much Jesus loved you. Cynthia was a devoted mother to her son, Chris.

Cynthia lost her only child Christopher Gagliastre just over 2 years ago, and then lost her brother Scott in February of this year. She leaves her husband, Al, her remaining siblings and their spouses, many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends. May she rest in peace with her savior and son, Chris, by her side.
