Subscription Update Obituary

Cynthia (Colebrook) Mourginis, 89, of Knollwood Nursing Center in Worcester, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 20, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Ida (Hook) and Harry Colebrook. Her beloved husband, Constantine “Dino” Mourginis predeceased her in July of 2023.

Born and raised in Worcester, Cynthia graduated from Classical High School and went on to New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Boston becoming a Registered Nurse. Later, she continued her education earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Assumption College.

Her nursing career began in 1957 working at Holden District Hospital and later she became the Assistant Director of Nurses until the hospital closed in 1990. Completing her nursing profession, she was a Patient Educating Coordinator at Fallon Healthcare until her retirement in 1999.

Cynthia was a member of The National Nurses Honor Society and a lifetime member of First Baptist Church in Worcester.

She will be remembered for her beautiful knitting, piano playing, and Swedish cookies and Glogg at Christmastime.

She leaves her two daughters, LeeAnne Spokis and her companion Reginald Padgett of Worcester, and Chris Sullivan and her husband Brian of Grafton; a son Steven Mourginis and his partner Dr. Nelson Goes of San Francisco; a granddaughter Andrea Spokis; a step grandson Nicholas Spokis and his wife Jodi; and four step great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her brother Donald Colebrook and son-in-law Francis Spokis.

Family and friends are invited to visit with Cynthia’s family from 10:00am-11:00am on Monday, October 28th at The First Baptist Church, 111 Park Avenue Worcester, followed by a funeral service at 11:00am. Burial will be at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton on Saturday, November 16th at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church in Worcester.
