Celia A. (Capurso) McLaren, 77, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Domenic and Mary (Chesna) Capurso and grew up in the Shrewsbury Street neighborhood of Worcester.
Celia graduated from Commerce High School with the class of 1964. She went on to serve as Supervisor of Central Mail at WPI for 35 years, retiring in 2013. Her outspoken nature and sense of justice made her a fantastic advocate for her fellow employees and a large supporter of human rights. She was known as a mentor to the students she worked with and could often be found sharing a cup of coffee and bagel with them when they were having a hard time. She was known for her amazing cooking abilities, her green thumb, and her love of animals.
She enjoyed watching the birds, spending time in nature, gardening, and a good cup of coffee. Above all she cherished spending time with her family cooking meals together, playing board games, reading stories, and sharing her wealth of knowledge of plants and animals. Her infectious laugh could often be heard throughout the house.
Celia will be lovingly missed and remembered by her son, David McLaren and his wife, Kim of Holden; her brother, Kenneth Capurso of Worcester; and her beloved grandchildren, Lisa McLaren and her fiancé, Bre Franks, Sophia McLaren, Emma McLaren, and Maxwell McLaren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Lisa McLaren in 1981 and her twin brother, Ralph Capurso.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 12 p.m. on Monday, November 6, 2023, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Ave., Paxton.
