Cecelia R. Gonyea, 93, of Towtaid St. in the Cherry Valley section of Leicester, died peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at Blaire House of Worcester. Born in Tewksbury, MA, she was the daughter of Julia Gremo.

Despite the cultural norms of her time, Cecelia was always determined to be an independent person. Unwilling to rely on the help of others, she spent her entire life working and learning new skills in order to provide for herself. A jack of all trades, she could work her way around any problem with ease. Ultimately, Cecelia ended up working in the housekeeping department at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, where she remained until her retirement.

In her free time, Cecelia was a strong lover of nature, and enjoyed spending time outdoors. She was always ready to open her home for an animal in need, even if she already had enough to fill a farm.

While predeceased by her son, Oscar Gonyea, today Cecelia leaves behind several nieces and nephews, in addition to a number of close friends and her cat, Wally.

Private services and burial in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton will be held at the convenience of the family. The MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester is assisting the family with arrangements. Please omit flowers.
