Carmela (Piccinino) Gill, 89, of Worcester, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2016, at The Christopher House of Worcester. Her loving husband of nearly sixty-two years, Thomas A. Gill, Sr., predeceased her in 2008.

Carmela is survived by her loving children, including a daughter, Kathy Pedone and her husband Leo of Worcester; three sons, Thomas A. Gill, Jr., and his wife Deborah of Worcester, Ron A. Gill and his wife Rosemary of Cranston, RI, and Timothy Gill of Worcester; a brother, Leonardo Piccinino of Yorba Linda, CA; three sisters, Yolanda Minchillo and Natalie Zois, both of Worcester, and Gloria Trafecante of Northborough; two grandsons, Jonathan Gill of Cranston, RI, and Jacob Rinaldi of Spring Grove, PA; two great grandchildren, Gracie Gill and A’driana Gill; many nieces and nephews. Carmela was predeceased by two of her beloved grandsons, Ronald Gill, Jr. and Brian Pedone; two brothers, Joseph and Armando Piccinino and a sister, Helen Mangini.

She was born in Worcester, daughter of Italian immigrants, Giacomo and Severina (D’Errico) Piccinino, and has lived here all her life. Carmela graduated from Commerce High School and it was there playing trumpet in the school band, that she met her life-long love, Tom, while performing on Shrewsbury Street.

Her soul was full of love and care. She shared her caring nature with her family as well as when she worked as a caregiver for local families in the area, including Dr. John Duggan and his family, Frank Carroll and his family and Leigh Mills and family. Her work with these families, the compassion and love she showed them, was more than a job, it was her vocation. She will be remembered as being a great mother, and as someone who always had a smile and a kind word.

Carmela was a member of Saint Christopher Parish. She enjoyed playing cards with her sisters on a regular basis. She found great fun in BINGO and “the wonder of it all”.

The Gill family would like to thank the wonderful people at Summit Elder Care on Grafton Street for the love and compassion they showed Carmela for the last fifteen and a half years. A special “thank you” to Jen, Pearl, Tammy, and Susan, who were her at home caregivers, they are remarkable in what they have done, making her comfortable and safe in her own home.

Services will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. George’s Church, 38 Brattle St., Worcester. Interment will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. A period of calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 14th from 9:00-10:15 a.m. in the funeral home prior to departure for her funeral mass.

In lieu of flowers, you may consider donations in her memory to Summit Elder Care, 1369 Grafton Street, Worcester, MA 01604.
