Subscription Update Obituary

Bertha Sylvia (Leahy) Malone, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 27th at Shrewsbury Nursing Home surrounded by her family. She leaves three sons; Michael Malone and his wife, Jacqueline of Dudley, Kevin Malone and his wife, Gail of Worcester, and Frank Malone and his wife, Mary of Rutland; two daughters, Mary Cozza and her husband, Jim of Worcester and Katy Gloshinski and her husband, Jim of Worcester; 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Robert K. Malone in 2011 and three brothers, Richard Leahy, Thomas Leahy, and Daniel Leahy.

She was born in Gardner the daughter of Thomas and Loretta (Allard) Leahy. Bertha graduated from Commerce High School and worked at New England Telephone & Telegraph prior to becoming a homemaker for the past 68 years. Bertha’s greatest treasures were her faith and her family. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at countless family gatherings. She was a devout member of Our Lady of the Angels Church for many years. Bertha enjoyed volunteering at community and church organizations including the Mustard Seed Food Pantry. She was cherished by all and will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank Jewish Healthcare Hospice, Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and home healthcare aids, Janet and Christina for the wonderful care that Bertha received over the past year.

Her funeral is Saturday, October 1st from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park. Her visitation will be from 8:30 until 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, PO Box 319, Grafton, MA 01519.
