Art J. Krauss, 80, of Worcester, formerly of Spencer, died Friday, May 31, 2024 at The Willows of Worcester.

He leaves a son, Peter Krauss and his wife Lisa of Paxton, a daughter, Emily Krauss and her partner David Hyslop of South Boston, a brother, Mark Krauss of Israel, a sister, Alice Roe of California, and three grandchildren, Tallulah, Calliope, and Harrison Krauss. He was predeceased by his parents. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, son of Daniel H. and Pauline (Rubin) Krauss. He graduated from Michigan State University with a Masters in Art.

Art had a long career as a Professor at many colleges including Wichita State University, Fitchburg State University, Worcester State University, and Becker College. He spent many years sharing his deep passion for the arts and media with his students. In addition, he spent years as a Corporate Advertising Director for a national grocery chain, managed several Public Access Television stations, and helped to grow the Children’s Museum of Maine as one of its first employees.  He was also incredibly proud of his work to restore a defunct 19th century train station in New Jersey for America’s bicentennial.

Art led an extraordinary and colorful life of an artist, a poet in the 60’s East Village scene, a singer/songwriter in freezing Portland, Maine and exhibiting his digital art on a tall ship in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  Above all else, Art was unapologetically himself.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, June 5, 2024 from 10:00 – 11:30 am, followed by a service at 11:30 at Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, Worcester. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ArtsWorcester at artsworcester.org/give
