Ardith C. (Cattermole) Martin, 95, of Worcester, peacefully passed away on June 18, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on September 17, 1928, in Newton, Ardith was the daughter of Lester and Ethel Cattermole. She grew up in the Wakefield, Lynnfield and Springfield areas and graduated from Northfield / Mount Hermon. After high school, Ardith earned her associate degree from Green Mountain Junior College, followed by a bachelor’s degree from UMass.
Ardith married her beloved husband, Robert A. Martin, on June 5th in Springfield, MA, sharing 65 years of marriage. Together, they welcomed five children into their lives: Ardie, Gregory, Heather, Jeffrey, and Angela.
A highly engaged member of Holden Chapel, Ardith earned the affectionate nickname ‘Church Lady’ with her family. She was actively involved in the Gideons Auxiliary and Chi Omega sorority. Ardith adored her role as a grandmother and cherished every moment spent with her family. Known for her wise counsel and nurturing spirit, she found joy in advising and supporting her loved ones. Ardith also had a passion for cooking and shopping, hobbies she pursued with enthusiasm. Her love of God and family was always very evident.
Ardith was predeceased by her husband, Robert A. Martin, her children, Jeffrey Martin and Angela Martin, and her sister, Dorothy Porter. She is survived by her children: Ardith ‘Ardie’ Henry of Northwood, NH, Gregory Martin of Mooresville, NC, and Heather Farrington of Worcester; grandchildren: Ryan, Eryn, Kirsten, Drew, Ariel, Alex, Brody, Nichole, and Andrew; as well as 3 nieces and many dear friends.
A funeral service to celebrate Ardith’s life will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Holden Chapel, 279 Reservoir Street, Holden, with burial to follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue, Paxton.
