Antonio J. Pavone Jr., 89, of Worcester died peacefully Saturday April 29, 2017 in the Knollwood Nursing Center surrounded by his loving family. His wife of 61 years Antoinette (Leo) Pavone died December 19, 2009. Antonio leaves his devoted children; daughter Catherine M. Salo and her husband David of Princeton, two sons, Michael F. Pavone and his wife Sharon of West Boylston, and Raymond F. Pavone and his companion Jhani Brown of Hubbardston, and a daughter in law Audra Pavone of Sutton wife of Paul Pavone who died April 14, 2017. Antonio also leaves his brother Frank Pavone of West Boylston, and a sister Frances Kewley of Holden. Antonio was the proud grandfather to Gia, Michael and his wife Ashley, Douglas and his wife Deanna, Mark and his wife Samantha, Michael Jr., and Alisha, he also leaves two great granddaughters Olivia Rose, and Violette Pavone, many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother Peter Pavone.
Antonio was born in Norwich Connecticut son of the late Antonio and Carmella (Cappuccio) Pavone and moved to Worcester many years ago. He was educated in the Worcester Public Schools. Antonio served his country proudly in the United States Navy during WW l l in Hawaii. He received the World War l l Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon. When Antonio returned home he went to work at the J.J. Nissen Company as a Baker where he worked for 38 years before he retired. During that time he was also the Owner and Operator of the A.J. Pavone Trucking Company.
Antonio was a former member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. He was very accomplished in the Art of Woodcarving and Stain Glass designs. He made many beautiful pieces for his family and passed that skill onto his son Paul. Antonio enjoyed watching all the New England Sports Teams, and loved working in his Garden. However, his most treasured times were when he was with his family especially his Grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends
Antonio was a member of the Bakers and Confection Workers Local #250 Union, the Greendale Retired Men’s Club, and the Worcester and Auburn Senior Centers. He was also a longtime member of the East Side Post American Legion #201.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Knollwood Nursing Center for their Kindness and Compassion shown to Antonio and his family during his stay there, it was greatly appreciated.
Antonio’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday May 3, at 11:00AM in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. Calling hours will be held from 9AM to 11AM in the funeral home prior to the service. Interment with his wife Antoinette will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, with Military Honors.
