Subscription Update Obituary

Allen E. Jenkins III, 37, of Worcester died Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at the UMass-Memorial Medical Center after a short illness.

Allen’s father, Allen E. “Fatty” Jenkins Jr., died in 2004.  He leaves his mother, Tara Fitzgerald-Jenkins of Worcester, with whom he lived; his sister, Sileema Dunston of Clayton, N.C., aunts, Kathleen G. Hurley and her husband Joseph of Douglas, and Anne F. Reyburn of Phoenix, Ariz.; uncles, Rashad Shabazz, Stephen Jenkins, Gilbert Jenkins and his wife Brenda, Jeffrey Jenkins, Rozelle Jenkins and his wife Toni, all of Worcester, Jaki Jenkins of Boston and Brian Jenkins of Atlanta; and many cousins.

Allen lived in Worcester all his life.  He attended Chandler Magnet School and graduated from St. Peter-Marian High School and Quinsigamond Community College.

Allen was a gifted basketball player. He played in high school and college.  At Quinsig, he was named to the All New England NJCAA All Conference Team.

Allen was an Instructional Assistant at North High School for the past several years. He was on the staff at the Greendale Branch of the YMCA.

Allen’s true passion was coaching basketball.  He was an assistant coach for the Quinsigamond Community College men’s team that made it to the national NJCAA Division III Final Four.  He was coach of the varsity girl’s Main South team at Claremont Academy for the last 10 years.  He also previously coached the varsity girl’s Polar Bears at North High School.  He also coached at Friendly House and St. Peters Church.

The family would like to thank Marie Arakelian for her compassionate and loving nursing care as well as the nurses and doctors at UMass Medical.

Calling hours are Monday, February 6, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester.  The funeral Mass will be Tuesday, February 7, at 10 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, 931 Main St. Worcester.  Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
