Albert Raymond “Guido” DiMarzio, Sr., 81 passed away peacefully on February 24th after a brief struggle with cancer. His Wife of 55 years, Rose Marie (Doherty) DiMarzio, passed away on January 30, 2010. He leaves a daughter, Valorie A. Ray and her Husband Jeffrey of Auburn; his Son Albert R. DiMarzio, Jr. and his Wife Monica of West Boylston; a Sister Antoinette (DiMarzio) Langner of Wakefield, MA, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his Brothers Michael and Achille DiMarzio and his Sister Marion (DiMarzio) Mandel.

Albert was born and raised in Worcester, MA, Son of Achille and Mary (Latino) DiMarzio, and graduated from Commerce High School. He enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey, Fort Bliss, TX and also the Davidsonville, MD, the Nike-Hercules Missile Base, where he worked in Radar — His last Rank being Sergeant First Class.

He worked at numerous local companies, including Crompton and Knowles before graduating from Worcester Industrial Technical Institute, where he received a diploma in Industrial Electronics. He then became a licensed TV Repairman and worked for Holden TV, then Sears, eventually starting his own business, DiMarzio TV, which he owned and operated for many years.

Throughout his life, Albert devoted much of his time to volunteering and community service at many local charities and organizations. He was Chairman of the Board of the South Worcester Neighborhood Center for 34 years, helping to enhance the quality of life for South Worcester Residents. He was a Delegate at numerous Democratic Conventions and campaigned for numerous local politicians. Albert was the Scout Master for the Boy Scouts at the New Ludlow School. He was coach to the Mass Steel Minor League Team and National Standard Little League Team, and sponsored the DiMarzio TV Girls Softball Team through Ty Cobb Little League.

Albert was a member of the Main South Post 341 and was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church for more than 57 years. He received the Volunteer Community Service Award from the City of Worcester.

Albert enjoyed life to the fullest, spending time with family and friends – always with a smile on his face-his smile radiating to all those around him — fishing, camping, sledding, swimming, skating with his kids, nieces and nephews; family outings at Rutland State Park and Green Hill Park; Saturday Nights at the Main South Post and weekends at Eastover and Hampton Beach with the ‘Post Crew’; singing at Karaoke (his Stage Name being “Guido”) – ‘My Way’ and ‘Sweet Caroline’ his signature songs; always in demand on the dance floor at weddings and other functions; Friday lunches with his close friends; day trips to Foxwoods; Super Bowl Brunch and his pitchers of his famous Bloody Mary’s. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Albert’s Family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and thanks to the Auburn VNA Hospice Team, specifically Michele, Susan, Angie and Jeanine, who visited with him daily for the last 6-1/2 months; who also became part of our family.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 27 from CALLAHAN FAY & CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester with a Mass at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Visiting hours are Friday, February 26 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
